WELCOME!

It’s another week in KidCity! Whether you’re with us at home or in person, this is a great opportunity to get involved, together, with this week’s Uptown Bible story.

Three Ways to Interact With This Blog:

  • Watch the animated Bible story together then, using the “Talk It Over Questions”, help your child review and reflect on the Bible story. Also, the “Christ Connection” helps you, take seemingly disconnected Bible stories and connect them—like the pieces of a puzzle—to see the big picture of the Bible, which is Jesus.

  • Skip the video and open up the Bible to read this week’s story together. (For ideas on how to make reading out loud fun, click HERE). Then scroll down to the “Talk It Over Questions” and the “Christ Connection”.

  • Do both 1 & 2

This Week’s Bible Story:

NAHUM WARNED OF GOD’S JUDGMENT

WATCH THE STORY:

READ THE STORY: NAHUM

God gave a message to Nahum (NAY huhm) the prophet. Nahum took God’s message to Nineveh, the capital city of Assyria. The Assyrians were mean, evil people. They were enemies of God’s people, and God was going to judge them.

First, Nahum told the people what God is like. God is a jealous God. That means He wants people to worship only Him.

Nahum said God punishes the guilty, those who do wrong. God does not lose His temper; He is patient.

He is powerful, too. No one can stand up against the power of God.

Nahum said the Lord is good. He takes care of people who trust in Him. But the people of Nineveh did not trust in Him.

Then Nahum took a message to God’s people: “The Assyrians are strong and have big armies, but I will defeat them. You have been hurt, but you won’t hurt anymore.” The Assyrians had power over God’s people, but God was going to set His people free!

God’s message was bad news for Nineveh and good news for the people of God. Peace was coming for God’s people! Now they could worship God and obey Him freely.

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Nahum brought a message of comfort to God’s people, reminding them that God loves His people and will protect them from their enemies. Jesus also brought a message of comfort, salvation, and peace to His people. All of the enemies of God and His children were defeated at the cross. One day, God will finally judge all evil.

Here are 5 easy steps to Understanding the Gospel

TALK IT OVER QUESTIONS

  1. Where did God send Nahum with His message? (Assyria)
  2. Who had taken God’s message to Assyria before Nahum? (Jonah)
  3. What kind of news was Nahum’s message to Assyria? (Bad news)
  4. Why was Nahum’s message bad news for Assyria?  (They had returned to wickedness and God was going to punish them)
  5. Who was Nahum’s message comforting to?  (Those who trust was in God)
  6. How can we be safe from God’s punishment?  (Faith in Jesus who took our punishment for sins)
  7. Who do you know that needs to hear the news that Jesus can rescue them from sin?
  8. How can you comfort someone who is a believer that is having trouble?

MEMORY VERSE: Psalms 139:13-14

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”

PRAYER:

God, we thank You for Your patient love. You sent Your prophets to warn people to repent from their sins. Then, You sent Your Son, Jesus, to save anyone who believes in Him. Thank You for the grace You give! Amen.
