WELCOME!

It’s another week in KidCity! Whether you’re with us at home or in person, this is a great opportunity to get involved, together, with this week’s Uptown Bible story.

Three Ways to Interact With This Blog:

  • Watch the animated Bible story together then, using the “Talk It Over Questions”, help your child review and reflect on the Bible story. Also, the “Christ Connection” helps you, take seemingly disconnected Bible stories and connect them—like the pieces of a puzzle—to see the big picture of the Bible, which is Jesus.

  • Skip the video and open up the Bible to read this week’s story together. (For ideas on how to make reading out loud fun, click HERE). Then scroll down to the “Talk It Over Questions” and the “Christ Connection”.

  • Do both 1 & 2

This Week’s Bible Story:

DAVID SINNED AND WAS FORGIVEN

Want to read it: 2 Samuel 11-12; Psalm 51

WHAT IS GRACE? GRACE IS WHEN GOD GIVES US SOMETHING GOOD EVEN WHEN WE DO NOT DESERVE IT.

King David sent out Israel’s army. David stayed in Jerusalem. One evening, David looked out from his palace and saw a beautiful woman named Bathsheba. Bathsheba was the wife of Uriah, one of the best warriors in David’s army. David sent his messengers to get Bathsheba, and she came to David’s house. Later, Bathsheba told David that she was going to have a baby; the baby was David’s. David knew he had sinned, so David made a plan. First, David called Uriah home from the battle. But Uriah didn’t think it was fair for him to relax at home while the other men were at war. Uriah slept on David’s doorstep and refused to visit his wife. David made a new plan. He instructed the leader of the army to send Uriah into the hardest part of the battle so he would be killed. This time, David’s plan worked. David took Bathsheba into his house to be his wife, and she had a baby boy. God sent Nathan the prophet to talk to David. Nathan told David a story: A traveler came to a rich man who had many animals. The rich man did not offer his own animal. Instead, he took a poor man’s lamb—the only lamb he had—and gave it to the traveler to eat. This story made David feel angry. “You are the man!” Nathan said. God had given David a position of great power, and David took what wasn’t his. David realized he had sinned against God.

Christ Connection:

When David repented of his sin, God forgave him, but sin always comes with a price. God spared David’s life, but David’s son died. When we sin, we deserve death. But we can receive God’s forgiveness because God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins.

Here are 5 easy steps to Understanding the Gospel

TALK IT OVER QUESTIONS

  1. Where was David when he saw Bathsheba? (on the roof of the palace, not at war with his army)
  2. How did David try to cover his sin with Bathsheba? (First, David tried to get Uriah to come be with his wife. Then David decided to get Uriah killed in battle; 2 Sam. 11:7-15)
  3. What did David say about the rich man in Nathan’s story? (He deserved to die, 2 Sam. 12:5)
  4. Who was the prophet who showed David that he had sinned? (Nathan)
  5. What did David ask God to do? (Forgive him)
  6. Did God forgive David? (Yes, God forgave David.)
  7. What did God need to change so David did not want to sin again? (David’s heart).
  8. How is Jesus the perfect King? (Jesus perfectly rules over everything)

KEY PASSAGE: Ephesians 1:7-8

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
